Description of Service

CARS is the Employee Assistance Program for UNM and UNM Health Sciences faculty and staff, their domestic partners and retirees.  We provide an array of services to the UNM Albuquerque campuses, the branch campuses and UNM Health Sciences.  We provide short term counseling to individual adults and couples.  We do not see families or children and adolescents.

We provide supervisor consultation, coaching, webinars/seminars, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) services.  We provide referral suggestions when needed to resources within UNM, and within the larger communities in which the client resides.  We work with a myriad of issues, concerns and problems facing UNM employees and also provide a safe space to vent and gain perspective on difficult situations in a client’s work or personal life.

All CARS services are free and confidential.  CARS clinical staff at this time are Licensed Clinical Social Workers(LCSW) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC).

How to contact the department or request service

Counseling, Consultation, Coaching and CISM requests are made by phone only by calling CARS at 505-272-6868.

Webinars and Seminars may be requested via email to cars@unm.edu or by calling CARS.

What to expect when requesting assistance

Requests for counseling, consultation, coaching and CISM appointments are scheduled within 5-7 business days and urgent requests for an appointment are scheduled that same day.

We provide all services during regular business hours, M-F, 8am-5pm, with exceptions for urgent needs. Services can be provided in person in the CARS office or via the Zoom platform.
